8. Diuretic foods

Diuretic foods are those packed with water that make us run to the bathroom more often. If we load up on these right before bed, we might find ourselves making multiple bathroom trips during the night, which can definitely mess with our sleep.

Some common diuretic foods include cucumbers, asparagus, beets, celery, citrus fruits, watermelon, and cranberries. These foods are also low in calories and full of nutrients, so they’re great for overall health.

But if you’ve ever found yourself waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, it might be smart to save these foods for earlier in the day. The same goes for water—try to drink most of your daily water intake before 8 pm.

Bottom line: Diuretic foods like cucumbers, celery, and watermelon are best enjoyed during the day so they don’t mess with your sleep at night.
